Technical Skills at the Time of Joining the Company
In my previous job, I worked as an auto mechanic. However, after injuring my back, I decided to learn programming to acquire skills that would allow me to work without physical strain. I had no IT knowledge, so I started studying programming while also working towards obtaining the IT Passport certification. I attended a programming school for about six months to learn Java and applied to several companies. The friendly relationships and close bonds among the employees led me to join this company.
Concerns When the First Project was Assigned
For my first project, I was able to join a project that my senior was already involved in, allowing me to learn while working under their guidance. Despite my lack of practical experience, I was entrusted with creating basic design documents, coding development, and coding tests. At first, I struggled to keep up with the team meetings, made repeated mistakes, and created difficulties for clients. I even questioned whether I was suitable for this job. However, my senior listened to me attentively and explained things clearly, which helped me to overcome the tough times.
Current Job Responsibilities
I am currently working remotely on projects that involve creating system jobs primarily using Java and SQL. I am also tasked with production releases, which are usually rare opportunities. This requires me to be diligent and responsible as there are many things to learn and be mindful of. Additionally, working remotely gives me flexibility, allowing me to manage household chores and invest time in personal development even on weekdays.
Changes Since Joining the Company
I have gained confidence in myself as an engineer. The main reason for this is that I feel my ability to handle various tasks has increased, allowing me to contribute more to the team. When I first joined, I needed guidance even for basic tasks, and my mistakes often added to the workload, making me feel like I wasn't contributing. Now, by taking on tasks that only I can do or that the busy leader cannot handle, I am often appreciated by those around me, which has boosted my confidence.
Goals After One Year at the Company
As an engineer, I aim not only to improve my technical skills but also to grow as a person and become someone dependable. I believe that being a good engineer isn't just about technical skills. I want to develop my critical thinking skills, communication skills, and my character to be respected not only for my work but also as a person. My goal is to become an engineer who is needed and relied upon by others.
